The battery end-of-life picture in Sweden
Sweden combines high EV adoption with a strong heavy-vehicle industry and major investment in battery manufacturing in the north. That mix produces passenger, bus and truck packs as well as production scrap.
Swedish buyers tend to put carbon footprint and traceability first, so second-life reuse and documented material recovery both carry weight. The EU Battery Regulation applies in full, including the battery passport for EV batteries from 2027.
Our Gothenburg second-life campus sits in the heart of the West Sweden automotive cluster and turns graded modules into stationary storage for Nordic grids, commercial sites and charging hubs.
What drives volume in Sweden
West Sweden automotive cluster
Gothenburg and Trollhattan are centres for vehicle engineering and production, generating both scrap and returns.
Northern cell manufacturing
Investment in cell production in Skelleftea has made the north a significant source of manufacturing scrap.
Heavy-vehicle packs
Electric buses and trucks produce large, standardised packs that are well suited to second-life reuse.
Nordic storage demand
Commercial storage, peak shaving and charging buffers create a market for warrantied second-life systems.
What the rules require in Sweden
EU Battery Regulation
Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 sets producer responsibility, collection and recovery targets across Sweden. Battery passport requirements apply to EV batteries from February 2027.
Producer reporting
Producers report to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and must offer take-back. Many use collective schemes to meet these duties.
Site supervision
Treatment sites are permitted and supervised by county administrative boards and municipalities. Buyers should check that permits cover lithium-ion handling.

Sweden: common questions
Do you repurpose heavy-vehicle packs?
Yes. Bus and truck modules that pass grading are a strong fit for second-life storage built at our Gothenburg campus.
Can you provide carbon data for recovered material?
We can provide avoided-emissions estimates and processing records to support sustainability reporting.
Do you collect from northern Sweden?
Yes, through scheduled consolidated transport from northern sites to Gothenburg.
Collecting in Sweden?
Tell us where the packs are and we route them to the nearest site with the right paperwork for the jurisdiction.
